It’s officially the “start” of grilling season, but if you have a Kenyon All Seasons electric grill you know that grilling season never really left. When the days are longer and the anticipated warmer temperatures have finally arrived, it’s time to get outside and entertain patio style. Clean up the backyard, dust off the lawn chairs and move the grill outdoors to dine al fresco and rejoice in the sunshine.

To usher in a grillers favorite time of year, we’ve put together a few tips and techniques to help you have your best grilling season yet. Let’s get started!

Prepping and Preparing:

  • Marinades, rubs or brining are all great ways to add depth to the food you grill.
  • Choose bone-in meat for a more succulent, textured flavor. This also prevents meat from drying out and shrinking during cooking.
  • Let your meat reach room temperature an hour prior to grilling. This ensures an even and thorough cooking and allows for proper sear marks to develop versus an overcooked, crusty outer layer.
  • Adding liquid to your Kenyon drip tray is an essential function of our grills. Make sure to add at least a cup of liquid into the drip tray prior to grilling. Water is most commonly used but you could have a little fun and add in a variety of liquids that pair palatably with your meats. This liquid will evaporate during the grilling process and the evaporation will infuse into the food to produce a layer of flavor.
  • Try out these suggested combination of meats/liquids or create your own unique signature combo that will wow your guests and have them asking, “what’s your secret?”

Seafood – White Wine, Citrus Soda

Steak – Red Wine

Chicken – Water with a TBSP Lemon Juice

Pork – Apple Juice, Liquid Smoke

Burgers & Sausages– Beer

Cooking Conditions

  • When grilling, lay food on the grate in neat rows, moving from left to right. This will help you keep track of which food got placed on the grill first.
  • You won’t be able to achieve grill marks or accurately keep track of cooking time if you’re constantly turning over your meat every few seconds. For a more professional look and to achieve grill marks leave your food alone until it’s absolutely necessary to flip.
  • Choose between our grate or griddle attachment depending on the type of foods you are preparing. The griddle works best for breakfast foods such as pancakes and eggs, or anything that needs to be cooked on a flat surface.
  • No one wants to bite into an under cooked piece of meat or keep chewing on over cooked foods, instead use an internal meat thermometer and eliminate the guesswork out of grilling meats and get perfect results every time. Below are the minimal internal temperature guidelines for meat, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
  • Meat continues to cook even after it comes off the grill, so it’s best to remove just before desired doneness is reached and when it’s a few degrees under the listed temperature as it will continue to cook while resting.  Let rest for 5 minutes so the juices have a chance to settle back in.

Poultry: 165°F

Beef: The USDA lists the minimal internal temp for beef at 145°F. However, if you like your steaks cooked medium, go for 140°F; medium rare, go for 135°F.

Pork: 145°F

Fish: 145°F

Cleaning the Grill

No matter what type of grill you have, routine cleaning after each use is the key to maintaining it. Clean grills look better, work better and won’t leave a bad after taste on food. Before your Kenyon Grill cools, take a damp paper towel and tongs and rub the paper towel back and forth to loosen any leftover residue. For a deeper clean, place your grate or griddle directly in the dishwasher.

Tech.Co put together their Spring Gadget Guide: Grilling and Cooking which includes our City Grill.  There is nothing better than enjoying a perfect day and grilling with some friends except for adding these hight tech options:

“During the spring months one of my favorite things to do is to sit back and enjoy an evening outside with friends around a grill. Whether you prefer good ole-fashioned charcoal, Hank Hill-style propane, or enjoy the slow-cooked smokey approach, most grills haven’t changed; however, one traditional grilling brand is starting to change all of this.

The following grilling and cooking gadgets are on Tech.Co’s Spring Gadget Guide as must-haves for a successful BBQ party or simply to enjoy the weekend:

Another contender for city life cooking, the Kenyon electric is an advance grill designed to be smokeless and prevent flare ups. Just like your typical grill, the Kenyon Electric City Grill is able to heat up to 600 degrees, but has a slew of other features they lack. Without using a flame, their heat element is placed within the unit, preventing direct contact with food and preventing smoke. And while the dripping tray may also release smoke, simply by adding water to it will reduce that possibility. It features a nonstick grate and can be used indoors or outdoors. “

We just received out City Grill in time for holiday outdoor cooking. Most importantly we love the quality construction and design of the grill. Additionally the ordering process was smooth and efficient. The Kenyon staff were in touch during each phase of the process to ensure that we were informed and happy. We look forward to many years of grilling on our Kenyon City Grill.

I have been using my grill for a couple of months now. And I really love it. We use it on our patio on Miami Beach. It’s almost smokeless. It gets super hot super fast and is the easiest grill to clean I have ever had. Nothing sticks to it. I also bought the griddle and I use it all the time. I couldn’t be happier with it.

We live on the beach and have corrosion problems with everything that is not plastic. Hopefully this will be the grill that won’t rust. And after about six months it looks like new. I talked to Kenyon before I ordered it. They promised me a lifetime warranty when it came to corrosion. If it would ever corrode they would send me a new one. One is enough. So please don’t corrode.

We didn’t have 240 volts on the patio from the beginning. We called an electrician to rewire it. It took him half a day and a a couple of hundred dollars. Worth every penny.

City Grill

The Kenyon company has been very professional, from order through delivery. their City Grill is beautifully designed, cooks great, and is easy to clean and maintain. I love this purchase and highly recommend it to anyone.

Received our City Grill a few weks back and have used it serveral times: steak, salmon and veggies. It works extremely well and the high temperatures are better than I would have expected. Small, effecient, just lovely!

Kenyon is a great company and the products work fantastic. I have a Kenyon grill on my Sea ray and it is one of the best parts on my boat.

Great grill and customer service! After ordering I received a call verifying my order, because I ordered a product that I did not need. They refunded the money back to me. I warmed up the grill for 8 minutes on a setting of 8 put two Ribeyes on for 5 minutes, flipped them over and cook for another two minutes. Perfectly done medium well. Tasted great, good grill marks, tender and juicy. I do recommend getting their grilling tools as a total package for the grill.

Portable City Grill

We love our new Kenyon City Grill. We use it in our Boston condo and it works great. There’s essentially NO smoke and the food comes out very tasty. It is particularly good for kebobs and burgers. We also grill steaks, pork chops, and chicken. Previously, we used a stove-top cast iron grill, but the clean up was horrendous! The City Grill is amazingly easy to clean. I wash it by hand and it comes out like new every time. (It can be put in the dishwasher, but I prefer to do it by hand.) Finally, I have to say that the company is fantastic to deal with. After placing my order, I had forgotten to use a 10% coupon I had. I contacted Kenyon and they credited my account without a problem. I recommend this City Grill wholeheartedly. It is worth the price!

One of the best things on my boat is our Kenyon grill and its accessories. Top quality for great use and fun times. Thank you Kenyon!

Ordering and fulfillment were easy and flawless. Set up of grill was simple and quick.
My first test, and only so far, was to grill a well aged and marbled ribeye to rare perfection. I used a thermometer to monitor the internal temperature of the meat but had no idea what the temperature gradient might be using this new grill so I had to guess when to turn the steak. Unfortunately, I waited a bit long on the first side and was unable to grill both sides evenly as a result. My suggestion to others is to turn the meat before the internal temperature gets above 100 deg F because the first side will be nicely charred before you know it. You can always turn the meat again to even it out without risking overcharging one side.

Because there is virtually no smoke and absolutely no flare-up, there is a noticeable absence of the typical “smoke” flavor. Absent that, the meat was wonderful!
